Digital Technologies Enhancing Accessibility: A Project for the Ceramics Museum of Cutrofiano
摘要
In the evolving field of museum accessibility, the analysis of visitors’ needs, particularly people with impairments, necessitates the exploration of innovative practices and tools. This article introduces a project started in answer to the Italian Ministry of Culture’s call for proposals, aimed at eliminating physical and cognitive barriers in cultural institutions. The focal point of this project is the design of an inclusive strategy for adapting the Ceramics Museum of Cutrofiano (Lecce) in terms of physical and cognitive accessibility. The strategic use of technologies, such as extended reality (XR), is aimed at enhancing the experience for a wide audience, thus promoting inclusivity, and enhancing the overall visitors’ journey. This paper furnishes insights into the conceptualization and execution of the project, shedding light on the interdisciplinary collaboration between cultural organizations, local entities, and academic research. Furthermore, the article discusses the current state of development, emphasising the importance of digitization and XR technologies for the creation of a more inclusive cultural space for people with special needs.
