The Role of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems in Building Resilient and Sustainable Supply Chains

To succeed in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world, organizations and supply chains (SCs) must be sustainable, resilient and secure. The study aims to identify the importance of incorporating intelligent and fuzzy logic tools in supply chain management (SCM) and logistics, highlighting their contribution in improving decision-making and overall SC performance. Fuzzy logic provides flexible, human-like logic, making it suitable for dealing with imprecise or uncertain information. Literature and professional studies are analyzed to identify the main challenges and trends impacting SCM, as well as the advantages and potential disadvantages of adopting fuzzy systems. Through a critical analysis, the article shows that diffuse tools improve efficiency, sustainability and resilience in SCM, optimizing supplier selection, inventory management, transportation routes, among others. Despite disadvantages, such as complexity in model construction and insufficient experimental evidence, the adoption of fuzzy models offers significant benefits in managing complexities and uncertainties. The findings highlight the importance of intelligent, comprehensive and agile systems in creating adaptive and effective SCs, contributing to creating competitive advantage and ensuring operational continuity.
