Optimal Load Shedding for Power Systems Using the Binary Exhaustive Search Method
摘要
The article presents a novel practical load-shedding method for a power system using the Binary Exhaustive Search method. Effective load shedding plays an important role in power systems to achieve higher reliability and prevent partial and full blackouts. However, conventional methods rely on only shedding a predefined constant number of loads based on priorities among the loads, which can cause over-shedding or under shedding. To achieve higher stability and less equipment disturbance in power systems, only the necessary amount of the load must be shed, minimizing the difference between power generation and demand. In the presented method, each load is assigned a binary status of being active or inactive, which allows the evaluation of all possible binary combinations to minimize the difference between the generated power and the total active load demand. Simulations are conducted to show that the presented approach using the Binary Exhaustive Search method is capable of finding optimal solutions by analyzing of power system capability and demand with minimal computation, and over shedding/under shedding, while outperforming traditional methods in speed and interpretability for small to medium-sized systems.
