The research aims to investigate the effectiveness of virtual reality as a collaborative tool among experts in a road planning project within the context of Perth, Western Australia. Over recent years, virtual reality applications have seen widespread adoption across various fields, assisting stakeholders to evaluate project efficiency prior to implementation, thereby minimising potential errors and risks. There are studies evaluating the effectiveness of virtual reality as a participatory urban planning tool in the community engagement processes (Christodoulou et al., 2018; van Leeuwen et al., 2018; Schrom-Feiertag et al., 2020), its impact on student learning (Sanchez-Sepulveda et al., 2019a, 2019b), and its utility for initiating informed discussions among experts, particularly within urban planning practices (Jiang et al., 2023). This paper explores experts’ perspectives of VR systems as a collaborative tool in the road planning process. The findings suggest that visual virtual reality is an effective tool whose utility can extend to other areas of project construction and management.

摘要
