The majority of the water on Earth has salinity levels equal to 10,000 parts per million (ppm), and seawater naturally has salinity levels between 35,000 and 45,000 ppm in the pattern of TDS (Eltawil et al. in Renew Sustain Energy Rev 13:2245–2262, 2009). The World Health Organization (WHO) states that the acceptable bound of salinity in water is 500 ppm and, in specific situations, equal to 1000 ppm. Too much brackishness results in laxative effects, stomach issues, and taste issues. A desalination technique is utilized to unsoiled or sanitize seawater or brackish water and provide water with a TDS content of 500 parts per million or less.
