摘要

Asingle energy-type definition of stability is used to study different aspects of plastic instability. The definition concerns stability of a quasi-static deformation process but applies also to an equilibrium state. The connections with the bifurcation theory as well as with energy criteria of stability of equilibrium are demonstrated. Hill’s extremum principles are re-derived as necessary conditions for stability of a deformation process.
