The escalating global plastic pollution crisis has intensified the focus on circular economy (CE) strategies as viable solutions beyond traditional recycling methods. Despite the prominence of recycling in CE practices, it is increasingly evident that recycling alone is insufficient to address the environmental impacts of plastic production and waste. The study highlights that while reducing plastic consumption directly tackles the root of the problem, reusing existing materials extends the lifecycle of products, thereby minimizing the demand for virgin plastic production and curbing landfill. However, barriers hinder the widespread adoption of these strategies, including the entrenched linear economic models, technological limitations, and inadequate infrastructure for collection, repair, and redistribution. The study also underscores the necessity of coordinated efforts across sectors, from government policy to industry innovation, to overcome these challenges and fully realize the potential of CE. By advancing beyond recycling and embracing reduction and reuse strategies, the plastics industry can contribute to environmental sustainability, economic resilience, and the creation of new opportunities for innovation and growth.

摘要
