This chapter maps key aspects related to the digitalisation of public services in South Africa. The following elements are investigated: policy elements related to digital government strategies, declarations, programmes and actions; regulatory elements related to openness, sharing and data protection laws; institutional and governance elements related to the oversight and competences of public agencies, public-private partnerships and regulatory innovations in technology; and evidence from critical sectors such as smart cities, digital ID, and digital payments.
