AI-Enhanced Augmented Reality for L2 Medical English Learning and Remote Surgical Collaboration
摘要
This paper presents a pilot study of implementing a novel system combining Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) designed for remote collaboration in clinical surgery and L2 medical English learning. The primary objective of this study is to provide real-time, AI-driven recommendations to surgical teams, especially when encountering unexpected challenges during operations. Traditionally, unforeseen complications during surgery leave medical teams with limited options, often resulting in suboptimal outcomes. However, the proposed system addresses this issue by enabling surgeons to receive optimized medical strategies and guidance from an AI assistant, which is trained to analyze situations and propose real-time solutions based on data and past experiences. In addition to improving surgical decision-making, the system incorporates an AI-driven L2 medical English training module, designed to enhance communication among multilingual surgical teams. This module provides real-time language support, terminology explanations, and speech recognition-based performance evaluation, ensuring effective team coordination in international medical environments. Based on prototype tests in simulated surgical environments, the results demonstrated that the AI-assisted collaboration system successfully provided timely and accurate recommendations, significantly reducing response time and improving overall surgical outcomes. Furthermore, the L2 learning module improved participants’ proficiency in medical English, enhancing their ability to communicate critical information effectively. These findings highlight the system’s potential in addressing sudden surgical challenges while also contributing to language proficiency development, ultimately leading to improved healthcare outcomes in diverse and globalized medical settings.
