This chapter develops a conceptual framework for understanding how various far-right actors engage with environmental politics. Examining the interplay of history, ideology, and aesthetics, it introduces the ideological foundations of different strands of far-right environmentalism, including ecofascism, green nationalism, and accelerationism, situating them within longer intellectual trajectories of Malthusianism, eugenics, and Nazi ecological thought. The chapter explores how far-right organisations and movements construct narratives of environmental crisis within radically hierarchical political frameworks, portraying migrants and other socially marginalised groups as existential threats to both ecological and cultural integrity. It highlights the use of aesthetics—such as idealised rural landscapes, mythologised histories and nostalgic symbolism—to evoke emotional resonance, reinforce reactionary attitudes, and obscure systemic oppression. Finally, it briefly considers how digital platforms amplify these strategies, enabling the far right to reframe ecological concerns to advance authoritarian and exclusionary political agendas.
