Chapter 8: Looking from the Margins: Exploring Aspects of Women’s Political Participation in Rural Jezira During the December Revolution
摘要
This chapter sheds light on the political participation of women in rural areas taking the case of a rural village in Jezira state during the peak of December’s revolution. The research focuses on how the spatial remoteness of women adds another layer of exclusion to the already exclusionary norms of women’s political participation. While it explains how the urban centrality of political action including political resistance against the regime has made it challenging for women in rural contexts to have a visible voice, it also highlights the navigation dynamics these women utilized to engage, using an approach that focuses on local everyday life discussions, the chapter links positionalities, perspectives and political concerns to the wider national and international debates on women and girls’ rights and challenges of representation.
