Visualising the Invisible: Zero and Afro-Italian Urban Utopias
摘要
Science fiction’s utopian forms bespeak a radical cultural practice and desire, attempting to map or remap the social, cultural, or cartographical problems plaguing reality. Deploying Netflix’s 2021 superhero series Zero as a case study, this chapter reflects a political agenda of Afro-Italian youth culture as a utopianist strategy of aesthetic dimensions. It draws connections between Italy’s TV productions as spaces where Black Italians as embodied resistance conjure new aesthetic implications and the struggles of Afro-Italian activists and artists that indefatigably push forward the future actualisation of the image.
