This chapter situates the Turkish theological landscape within the global field of Islamic higher education, emphasising its distinctiveness. It discusses the institutional and intellectual history of Islamic theology in Turkey, with particular attention to its establishment as a scientific discipline within universities in 1949. The chapter concludes by introducing the International Theology Programme and outlining its genesis, outlook, and structure.
