The number of students entering United Kingdom (UK) universities from international high school programmes has become a valuable source of income, with many becoming financially dependent on attracting overseas students. Much of the current research focuses on the educational transition, such as the language skills and learning styles of UK universities. But little attention is given to the socio-cultural adjustment which international students go through when attending university abroad. Foreign students, especially from China, are required to make huge steps in adapting to a new learning, living and linguistic environment. From their educational and personal backgrounds, the students’ have abilities which can make their transition successful. Institutions—both overseas universities and domestic international high schools in China—need to be aware of the challenges their students will face and prepare them to succeed not only academically but also personally in their future overseas study life.

摘要

The number of students entering United Kingdom (UK) universities from international high school programmes has become a valuable source of income, with many becoming financially dependent on attracting overseas students. Much of the current research focuses on the educational transition, such as the language skills and learning styles of UK universities.
