This chapter will be exploring as to how smart technology investments go hand in hand with sustainability through technologies in India such as unified payment interface or UPI that help us achieve goals under both the environmental and economic constraints. With the global concerns regarding climate change, resource depletion and over exploitation of its wealth continue to rise, so does the need to look into improving the resource efficiency by the means of smart technologies in the sectors of Agriculture, Energy and urban development. Chapter puts across the significance of these technologies like IoT, AI and machine learning in terms of real-time data gathering and analysis that enable improvement in resource management. For instance, IoT sensors in agriculture help in the reduction of usage of water. India’s UPI is shown as a revolutionary digital payment system that has simplified access to financial services that has helped in allowing financial inclusion for millions of people. This move from cash to digital payments has decreased environmental consequences by cutting the use of paper and metal, and lowering energy consumption related with currency processing. Despite these developments, concerns such as high implementation costs, infrastructure needs and cybersecurity threats are still to be addressed. To address such obstacles, the chapter suggests a multi stakeholder strategy that highlights and supports government policies, public private partnerships, and international collaborations. The chapter finishes by pointing out the need for a balance between technical progress and environmental care. It asks for continuous and long-term study to improve the accessibility and environmental sustainability of smart technologies throughout their lives, thereby, giving a way toward blending of innovation with ecological responsibility (Kumar et al. in 2023 international conference on disruptive technologies (ICDT).
