Digital technologies have become available and have started to pervade livestock production. Now, AI technology is becoming available on top of that for identifying and tracking individual animals, for monitoring health, or for monitoring and predicting behavior of animals. With some emphasis on the role of coming applications of AI technology, we sketch the state of the art of these technologies in livestock production, motivating the conclusion that AI is likely to contribute substantially to its expected transformation.
