Some Theoretical Foundation for Protein Identification Through Cyclic Codes
摘要
In recent work, the potential relationship between protein synthesis processes and digital transmission systems has been investigated. Progress in this matter could lead to conclusions about the evolution and connection between species. An intersection between Coding Theory and biological systems lies in the representation of biological sequences as code words of BCH codes. In the article Construction of Cyclic Codes over \(\mathbb {Z}_{20}\) for Identifying Proteins (Galíndez and Duarte, Construction of cyclic codes over \({\mathbb {Z}}_{20}\) for identifying proteins, pp. 40–51, 2019), three algorithms were designed to identify odd-length polypeptide sequences as code words of cyclic codes. However, a formal foundation of the algorithms was not provided. This work establishes a mathematical foundation for all three algorithms, proposes a novel approach to improve the performance of the protein identification process; and presents some examples to demonstrate its application.
