Being at the heart of environmental and technological stakes, the home is witnessing a profound transformation under the influences of continuous advances of new technologies and artificial intelligence. In this article, we perceive design fiction as a tool for developing another outlook on artificial intelligence technologies introduced in the home automation of contemporary habitats. Home automation promises to revolutionize the way we inhabit our living spaces. In this article, we attempt to anticipate the potential trajectories of these emerging technologies to critically examine the current technological landscape. To this end, we have selected two speculative fictions that explore new interpretations of emerging technologies societal trends. Our critical perspective seeks to reexamine our norms, ethics, and values in light of possible future realities enabled by unprecedented technological advancements. We will study the use and presence of AI in the different narratives, seeking to detect different perspectives of change. What do these anticipatory scenarios of our common future tell us, and how can they help design to anticipate future mutations?
