Improving Situational Awareness During Natural Disasters Using XR Technologies
摘要
Situational awareness is critical in crisis management, because immediate access to relevant information can dramatically improve decision-making and reaction efficacy. As part of the C.A.R.E.XR project, which is funded by the H2020 CORTEX program, we created an Extended Reality (XR)-based collaborative tool to improve situational awareness for mission planners. The application interacts with existing crisis management software (NICS) and runs on the Alcatel OpenRainbow platform, allowing for seamless communication and coordination. The system, which is designed to work with a variety of XR-enabled devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and XR goggles, immerses users in a mixed-reality environment rich in important data. Automatic speech transcription in different languages, text summarizing to extract actionable insights, and IoT connectivity for real-time sensor data collection are among the key features. The tool uses XR technologies to provide crisis responders with an interactive and intuitive interface, boosting their capacity to assess, cooperate, and respond efficiently during emergencies. This study emphasizes the transformative power of XR in improving situational awareness and operational efficiency in crisis response.
