A Bibliometric Study on Extended Reality (ER) in Human Resource Management (HRM)

Extended Reality (XR) is an advanced technology that has completely modified how people are experiencing the real and virtual environments by integrating three phenomena together- virtual realities (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) in their escalation and convergence. This study aims to find out the ways these technologies influence the workplace and to give directions on their best application. The Scopus database, known as the biggest resource of scholarly studies worldwide, was employed for the analysis. This study undertakes a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the burgeoning literature on XR applications within Human Resource Management (HRM) studies 2015–2025 to establish research trends and hot topics. Hence, this analysis considers certain recent and ongoing developments in the industry for the years 2015–2025. These include: the development of XR in HRM, its benefits, challenges, and possible future directions. This study also offers guidance to potential scholars who may wish to investigate XR in the HRM field.
