Disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI) are a group of disorders categorized based on symptoms using Rome IV criteria. Gastrointestinal motility disorders are group of disorders characterized by symptoms arising from abnormality in the aboral movement of intestinal contents. Both DGBI and gastrointestinal motility disorders present with overlapping symptoms which are often disabling to the patient. Additionally, these symptoms also interfere with nutritional intake contributing to malnutrition. Stagnation of luminal contents resulting from gastrointestinal motility disorders contributes to bacterial overgrowth, which in turn affects gastrointestinal motility and nutrient absorption. Thus, nutrition management plays a major role in the management of these conditions. Working in close collaboration with dieticians can help timely diagnosis of nutritional deficiencies and appropriate nutritional management resulting in good outcomes.

摘要
