Autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction, particularly sympathetic hyperactivity, has been implicated in the pathogenesis Fibromyalgia (FM). An important potential sequelae is sleep disturbance. The direct effect of ANS dysfunction on voice in FM patients has not been investigated despite the strong link between the ANS and voice. An increase in sympathetic activity can result in alteration in many acoustic parameters with possible change in voice quality. More studies on the effects of ANS dysfunction on voice in FM patients are needed.
