The Fragility of Palm Date Wooden Elements in the Berberian Vernacular Architectures of Aurès Valley in Algeria

The chapter examines the uses of date palm wood as bearing and completion, which are highly endangered elements disappearing in the traditional vernacular Berberian architecture of the Aurès Valley. The summary described has been possible starting from the analysis of the remains in the sites visited by the author in the last seven years of surveys. In short, the horizontal bearing elements (beams), the vertical ones (pillars), the masonry reinforcement elements, the shutters, the stairs, and the gutters will be described.
