In composite materials, damage is a key phase of their behavior to assess new solutions for designing damage-tolerant structures. In this chapter, static and fatigue 3-point bending tests are conducted on an eco-composite sandwich. The skins are made of Elium 150® resin reinforced with several layers of flax fibers and the core is composed by balsa wood. These mechanical tests coupled with acoustic emission (EA) monitoring were conducted to evaluate the durability of this material. Firstly, static tests are carried out to analyze the macroscopic bending behavior of the sandwich beams that also help identify failure parameters needed for fatigue testing. Subsequently, fatigue analyses show how the highest loading ratios reduce the structure’s longevity.

摘要
