The construction sector has a significant impact on urban pollution, causing an important amount of CO2 emissions. However, existing building reuse, with a circular economy perspective, can play a crucial role in the energy transition, thanks to the adoption of energy-efficient projects. This paper investigates how innovative technologies and bio-based materials in building reuse can reduce operational CO₂ emissions, while highlighting their potential for long-term energy savings and operational costs reductions. In this perspective, is presented the adaptive reuse project of the historic Monastery of San Pietro a Maiella and San Giacomo in Salerno, in Italy. The study employs a mixed-method approach, combining Energy Performance Analysis, Material Innovation Assessment and Cost-Benefit Evaluation to assess the potential benefits of a circular adaptive reuse of the historic building.
