Evaluating the Impact of MGNREGS Employment on Rural Workers’ Quality of Life in Kerala”
摘要
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is designed to strengthen rural livelihood security by offering 100 days of assured wage employment per year to households willing to undertake unskilled manual labor. This study examines the quality of life among MGNREGS workers in a selected Grama Panchayat in Ernakulam District, Kerala. The evaluation focuses on four key dimensions: physical, psychological, social, and environmental well-being, assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF scale, a 26-item instrument developed by the World Health Organization (WHO).The data collected through questionnaire from 95 workers and analysed using Jamovi Software. Findings indicate that 58% of participants reported medium levels of physical QoL, while 31% experienced high physical well-being. Psychological and environmental QoL were moderate for most respondents, while social QoL was notably higher for 72%, reflecting strong community bonds. A significant association was observed between work experience and physical QoL (χ2 = 22.9, p = 0.004). To further enhance QoL, interventions such as skill development, health check-ups, and extended work duration are recommended.
