The main body functions are digestion, excretion, circulation of the blood, respiration, and functions needed for survival, such as immune defense and reproduction. The brain controls all these functions in harmonious coexisting and concerted activities. I will discuss two main control systems: In this chapter, I introduce the endocrine system; in the next chapter, the focus will be on the neuronal system.
