This chapter explores how climate change contributes to driving a ‘green organisational reset’ within police services through two main avenues: (1) the implementation of sustainability strategies and greening of police operations, and (2) the expansion of mandates through specialised environmental crime units. It examines how sustainability narratives may facilitate long-term organisational change and highlights the growing need for capacity-building in environmental crime enforcement, which requires enhanced resources, expertise, and interagency collaboration. The chapter also discusses how the evolving role of police might also be expanded to overseeing sustainable transitions, reflecting a shift from traditional enforcement to compliance-focused approaches.
