This chapter covers a selection of benign neoplasms and just one malignant neoplasm of the skin. The selection contains congenital and acquired neoplasia. Some new growths on the body cause great concern to parents of their baby, e.g., melanocytic nevi and, especially, giant congenital melanocytic nevi. Some of the growths hardly qualify as growths for they tend to stay the same for long periods; an example of this is capillary hemangioma. A benign growth, like keloids, may have a defined etiology while others have what may be considered associations and they have varieties—of which neurofibromatosis is an example. Alteration to normal chemistry in the body may cause or be associated with some growths, and this is exemplified by penile calcinosis cutis. The only condition that is malignant is malignant melanoma; malignant melanoma is one of the conditions that deserve to be in this book that dwells on disease in skin of color, specifically the Black skin.

摘要
