This chapter uses Sistren’s play Buss Out! (1989) as the point of departure for discussing the impact of neoliberalism on Kingston, on Jamaica as a country, and, more specifically, on Sistren’s internal organisation and theatrical creation. The chapter discusses Sistren’s funding arrangements and its exchanges with Canadian popular theatre practitioners and development workers throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Special attention is paid to the shifts in Sistren’s organisational structure and the ways that the company was re-structured to suit the agendas of funders, the changing funding conditions globally, and the changes in Jamaican society brought about by neoliberal policies.
