Affective Disorders
摘要
In this chapter, I have given 11 cases. In case number 1, I cover antipsychotic drug selection, lithium and the importance of mood-congruent delusions. In case numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5, mistakes made by the trainee in the outpatient clinic are identified, and I have detailed the learning points for each case so that the trainee can improve on their clinical skills. Case number 6 deals with the classical symptoms of depression and the importance of history taking, for example, family history, past history, etc. Case number 7 deals with the symptoms of Cotard’s syndrome, relevance of invoking Mental Health Act Section 3 for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). I have attempted to describe the normal and other stages of grief in case numbers 8 to 11, how it affects the survivor physically and mentally and the availability of treatment options.
