In this chapter, I discuss in depth how and why local detail occurred. In the previous chapter, I started showing the reasons for the localisation and how it occurs. In this chapter, I continue the discussion by referring to those reasons as a process. In the first part of the chapter, I describe and interpret the events that deliver an adapted narrative in the field and conclude that about 50% of the CD activities I attended present a local detail in CD. The localisation process entails that locals need to work with what they have at hand and need to present activities that resonate with audiences. Therefore, following and presenting the national framework and script in CD as it comes, without unpacking and reproducing essentialist notions of a nation, is not well received by audiences. As such, locals are doing their job and looking for better ways to attract the attention of audiences to their activities. This leads to occurrences of local detail in CD, as locals are not always able to reproduce the ‘correct’ narratives as understood by the central authorities. Similar to the previous two chapters, most of the evidence and discussion in this chapter relies on interpretation of the data collected.
