This chapter examines the data requirements for addressing food loss and waste (FLW), a global challenge prioritized in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Although progress has been made in data collection and analysis, a comprehensive data value chain is essential for understanding the extent of FLW to inform effective interventions. We highlight the importance of a robust data ecosystem, including open-access FLW platforms, to enhance information accessibility and enable evidence-based decision-making. However, the reliance on modeled estimates and the lack of coordinated primary data collection efforts pose significant challenges. To address these challenges, we propose a data value chain roadmap. This roadmap is anchored in the ongoing role of UN agencies to monitor and report on FLW beyond 2030, and focuses on improving data quality, developing robust food quality loss indicators, and strengthening cooperation among stakeholders. Investing in these areas can improve the understanding of FLW, inform effective interventions, and ultimately deliver healthier and more sustainable diets for all.

摘要
