Effective communication skills are essential for all doctors. In an exam setting, these skills can be evaluated through simulated doctor-patient encounters. This chapter presents examples of common communication scenarios that candidates may encounter during an exam. These include breaking bad news, explaining a diagnosis and management plan, discussing surgical complications and errors, obtaining consent for treatment, encouraging adherence to treatment, managing interactions with an angry patient, and addressing issues of confidentiality.
