Mitral PVL occurs more frequently than aortic valve leakage. The symptoms experienced by patients depend on the size of the defect and the severity of regurgitation. In cases of severe PVL, patients are typically symptomatic, which can ultimately lead to biventricular failure. Surgical repair is the recommended treatment. Nonetheless, for those at high surgical risk, transcatheter closure presents an alternative option. This intervention is highly complex and should be thoroughly evaluated by an experienced team to assess the anatomical features of the defect. Various devices are available for closure (off-label), depending on the shape and size of the defect.
