Sometimes, the perceptionPerception that women lack confidenceConfidence is reinforced by commonly observed behaviors that seem to signal a lack of confidence. These often unconsciousUnconscious behaviors can manifest in various ways, such as excessive humilityHumility; failureFailure to claim credit for achievements; reluctance to apply for promotionsPromotion or new opportunities; invisibilityInvisibility in group settings or meetings; and perfectionism leading to procrastinationProcrastination and missed deadlines. These behaviors aren’t the result of character flaws or innate personality traits; they are learned responses, often rooted in societal expectations, past experiences, or anxietyAnxiety. The good news is that, with awareness and effort, these self-sabotagingSelf-sabotage habitsHabit can be unlearned. This chapter explores these behaviors, their origins, and, most importantly, discusses strategies to overcome them.
