Innovative Recycling Technologies for Sustainably Managing Solid Waste
摘要
Urbanisation and industrialisation have given rise to one of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges: solid waste management. Traditionally, landfilling and incineration have been the primary methods for waste disposal. However, these methods have become increasingly unsustainable, leading to environmental degradation and the loss of valuable resources. This paper examined how innovative recycling technologies are transforming solid waste management by offering environmentally friendly, economically viable and efficient solutions. Advanced technologies, such as waste-to-energy processes and artificial intelligence-enhanced sorting systems, can significantly reduce dependence on landfills, lower greenhouse gas emissions and minimise resource wastage. Additionally, the study highlighted integrated frameworks for creating a circular economy, combining technological advancements with community involvement. Furthermore, it explored sustainable waste treatment options such as composting, biomethanation and vermicomposting, alongside upcycling and biodegradable plastics. Achieving long-term sustainability in solid waste management requires collaboration among stakeholders and innovative approaches.
