The commonest site affected by hydatid disease is the liver, and hepatic hydatid disease constitutes 70% to 80% of all adult hydatid disease. This is followed by pulmonary hydatid disease which constitutes about 10% to 15% of all adult hydatid disease. In pediatric patients, the distribution of hydatid disease showed significant variation from adults. It has been reported that in children the incidence rates of 41–70% were observed for pulmonary hydatid diseases followed by the incidence rate of 43–48% for hepatic hydatid disease. Simultaneous hepatopulmonary hydatid disease is reported to be around 5–13%. Apart from the lungs and the liver manifestations of hydatid disease, there are reports of more unusual locations such as the spleen, heart, orbit, brain, muscle, salivary gland, bone, urinary tract, and pancreas. The clinical manifestation and treatment of hydatid disease have been discussed in other chapters; the main focus of this chapter is to discuss the manifestation and treatment of non-hepatic hydatid disease.
