Solace: Integrating Western and Emirati Poetic Traditions to Reimagine Narrative Poetry in VR
摘要
Narrative poetry is a literary form that often anticipates the narrative techniques found in prose fiction. This paper explores the integration of narrative poetry within virtual reality (VR) environments to reveal new design practices to further creative expression. It presents the design process of “Solace,” an immersive virtual reality experience that leverages VR’s auditive, visual, and spatial affordances by applying Western and Emirati poetic principles. The experience consists of a circular track within a virtual desert environment, where users navigate through a narrative poem that unfolds via a blend of soundscapes and animations. By positioning narrative poetry as a lens for VR design, this project demonstrates how VR can expand the boundaries of poetic expression and offers new methods for engaging users through innovative storytelling techniques.
