Embodied Learning and the Role of Extended Digital Musical Instruments
摘要
This article explores the transformative impact of Extended Digital Musical Instruments (EDMIs) in the realm of music therapy, education, and the arts. Focusing on BehCreative, an EDMI developed for therapeutic purposes, the study examines how these technologies can facilitate embodied learning and creative expression. By integrating advanced technology, EDMIs like BehCreative offer new avenues for musical interaction, expanding traditional paradigms of music therapy. The study highlights the interdisciplinary nature of EDMIs, drawing on concepts of embodied cognition and affordance to redefine the roles of spectators, composers, and performers. Through a pilot study involving fMRI scans and qualitative interviews, the research assesses the impact of BehCreative on emotional and cognitive engagement, revealing significant brain activation in areas associated with reward and emotional response. The findings underscore the potential of EDMIs to enhance motivation and engagement, offering substantial benefits for therapeutic and educational applications, particularly for individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities. The integration of EDMIs in various domains emphasizes their role in interdisciplinary collaboration and artistic innovation, paving the way for further research to maximize their benefits.
