The purpose of this study is to confirm whether real-time facial deformation can form smooth communication without worrying about the other party’s complexion. The study investigated whether people would have positive feelings by talking with someone who had been made to smile using image processing. In this experiment, the facial expressions deformed in real-time by image processing are displayed on a monitor, and the participants, who watch and talk with the deformed expressions, were asked several anxiety-provoking questions in the interviews style. After the experiment, the participants were also asked to answer a questionnaire using the PANAS method, which can measure positive and negative affects. The results of the experiment showed no significant differences in positive affects except for “Confident, motivated”, but significant differences were found in negative affects. This indicates that facial deformation is difficult to enhance positive emotions more, but is likely to dispel negative emotions.

摘要
