What Makes Teaching Design Challenging? An Analysis of Design Education Challenges in the Age of AI
摘要
Design problems are inherently complex, undefined, and require subjective political judgment for resolution. The discipline of Design focuses on the interaction between users and the Human-made environment, considering aesthetic, functional, contextual, cultural, and societal factors. It involves both technical skills (such as software proficiency, typography, and branding guidelines) and soft skills (including problem-solving and critical thinking). This research addresses challenges in Design Education by analyzing survey data on basic design subjects and comparing the findings with existing literature. A literature review was conducted on teaching strategies, technologies, and their impact on learning experiences in Design Education. Additionally, a survey explored the use and potential impact of AI tools in design subjects. The survey and literature review identified recurring challenges in Design Education, along with unique insights arising from the research. The study also explores the intersection of AI and Design Education. The findings aim to strengthen the field of Design Education by providing insights into current issues in teaching Design and the role of emerging technologies, such as AI, in shaping the future of Design Education.
