It is not yet firmly established what are the real numbers behind the various processes composing the cycle. However, is is clear that a correct representation of the physics and chemistry of clouds and precipitation in the Earth system models is crucial to obtain consistent scenarios of the future of the Earth in a changing climate. This is why research on clouds and precipitation is by all means a cornerstone of climate studies.
