Digital Identity: Avatars, Land, and Ownership in the Metaverse
摘要
This chapter aims to explore the intricate relationship between digital identities and their socio-economic ramifications, proposing that our digital personas will soon become as influential as our physical selves. The journey to this new multidimensional existence begins with profile pictures (PFPs) which have evolved from simple social media embellishments to fundamental components in the virtual realm. These PFPs are now crucial in personal branding, fostering community belonging, and signalling social status. Their utility extends beyond aesthetics; they grant commercial rights and access to exclusive digital spaces, significantly impacting users’ online and offline identities.
