In this chapter, shielded contraction, which restricts the retraction of beliefs based on their epistemic strength or entrenchment, is explored in the context of belief bases and belief sets. Various constructive definitions for shielded contractions are explained, along with corresponding rationality postulates. Representation theorems are presented clarifying the theoretical foundations of shielded contractions.
