Women journalists’ experiences in proximity radio stations are shaped by barriers to enter and progress in the field, structural conditions that shape the work environment, as well as the experiences of discrimination and harassment. A complex interplay of (self-)identification and societal and organizational structures lead to discriminatory practices and horizontal segregation. Women journalists navigate these tensions and use their spaces to bring women’s voices on air. To do so, they might adopt accommodative or transformative approaches.
