Learning disorders can mask ADHD symptoms. When learning is challenging, more attention is required. Alternately, when attention is vulnerable, learning becomes harder. The purpose of this chapter is to provide information on the association between learning disorders and ADHD for families, teachers, and clinicians. Starting with an explanation of the overlapping symptoms of the disorders, readers are then provided with practical steps toward clarifying the disorders. Several case examples provide context for common—but sometimes confusing—presentations.

摘要

Learning disorders can mask ADHD symptoms. When learning is challenging, more attention is required. Alternately, when attention is vulnerable, learning becomes harder. The purpose of this chapter is to provide information on the association between learning disorders and ADHD for families, teachers, and clinicians. Starting with an explanation of the overlapping symptoms of the disorders, readers are then provided with practical steps toward clarifying the disorders. Several case examples provide context for common—but sometimes confusing—presentations.
