MW ablation has a broad scope of indications in hepatic ablation. This technique is consequently replacing RF ablation as the method of choice for liver ablation. The most common indications are ablation of very-early- and early-stage HCC as well as metastatic colorectal liver metastases. However, cholangiocarcinoma or metastases from other tumor entities such as neuroendocrine tumors are also valid targets for hepatic MW ablation. MW ablation can also be combined with other locoregional therapies such as ATCE or systemic chemo- or immunotherapy. The procedure provides an overall survival that in some indications equals surgery at lower morbidity and mortality. In order to achieve the best results for the individual patient, it is key for the interventional radiologists to take part in multidisciplinary tumor boards.

摘要
