CT-guided nerve root block in patients with lumbar or cervical radiculopathy is a safe and effective therapy while minimizing the need for surgical intervention. Periradicular therapy (PRT) of the nerve root is the first step prior to operative intervention in patients with radiculopathy due to a herniated nucleus pulposus or spinal stenosis. Surgery on patients suffering from radiculopathy with or without minor sensory or motor deficit is only required if pain cannot be controlled by non-operative means.
