Future Directions in Computational Intelligence: Anticipating the Next Wave
摘要
This chapter introduces the rapid and accelerating growth of computational intelligence is opening a new era of revolution and innovation in many fields. The future evolution of innovations and ideas is the subject matter of the subsequent chapter, which is transforming the world. High-level subjects such as machine learning, neural networks, and intelligent systems will become more autonomous, adaptive, and capable of solving complex problems in innovative ways. The convergence of artificial intelligence with other growing technologies like quantum computing, biotechnology, and robotics can cumulatively provide the momentum for intelligent systems to revolutionize healthcare, business, and science. Growth in the Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing gives decision-making capability in real-time and processing at the edge level, ensuring it is effective and less dependent on central systems. The chapter also discusses issues of such growth, which are primarily ethics, information privacy, and the need for safer, easier, and fairer algorithms, calling for interdisciplinarity and the establishment of effective regulatory regimes. This study informs us of the possibility of such innovations to transform industries and gives us a guidebook for researchers, scholars, and practitioners so that they can contribute constructively to the next wave of computational intelligence. Having some idea of the direction in which technologies like these are headed, stakeholders will be in the best possible position to meet future pending ethical, technical, and social challenges.
